Accessibility Statement
Dogs change lives regardless of ability, and our website should work that way too. We are committed to making this site usable by everyone, and to fixing barriers when we find them.
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Our commitment
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a box to check, and we review it as the site grows.
What we have built in
- A skip-to-main-content link so keyboard users can bypass navigation
- Semantic headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate page structure
- Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images
- Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields
- Labels on form fields, and accessible names on icon-only buttons
- Color combinations chosen for readable contrast
- Layouts that reflow for mobile screens and support zoom without horizontal scrolling
- Full keyboard operability for navigation, forms, and checkout
Known limitations
We want to be honest rather than claim perfection. Areas we are actively reviewing include:
- Some longer forms and multi-step intake pathways are still being reviewed for screen reader flow
- Some third-party content, including our external secure payment page, is controlled by another provider and may not fully match our standards
- Older documents and handbooks linked from the site may not yet be fully tagged for accessibility
Need something in another format?
If any part of this site is difficult to use, or you need information in another format — large print, a plain-text document, or read aloud over the phone — we will get it to you. No form required, no explanation needed. Call or email us and we will help you directly.
Reporting a barrier
Please tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what device or assistive technology you were using. That detail helps us reproduce and fix the issue quickly. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
Assistance by phone
Every action available on this website — asking a question, submitting an application, placing an order, or making a contribution — can also be completed with a staff member by phone or email. If the website is a barrier, it should never be the reason a family cannot reach us.
Questions about this policy?
We would rather answer a question than have you wonder. Reach us at DogsNU@proton.me or (605) 340-8008.
